Now Open: NOVEL University Place
CHARLOTTE, NC (June 15, 2023) – Crescent Communities celebrated the official grand opening of its newest multifamily community in Charlotte, NOVEL University Place, earlier this month. The community is quickly becoming the center of Charlotte’s University City neighborhood, providing idyllic lakefront living, forward-looking sustainability features, and convenient, walkable access to numerous restaurants, retail, and hospitality offerings.
Situated at the crossroads of academia, culture, and community, NOVEL University Place’s dynamic programming and unrivaled amenities make it the ultimate destination for those seeking an elevated urban lifestyle. The community hosts the thriving University City Farmers Market each Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm and recently sponsored the seventh annual University City Wine Festival, an event showcasing wine, beer, and spirits from North Carolina and around the world.
“NOVEL University Place is quickly becoming the most desirable destination within Charlotte’s burgeoning University City,” said Michael Tubridy, Managing Director of the Carolinas and Tennessee for Crescent Communities. “This area provides the ideal balance between urban living and personal sanctuary, and in partnership with University City Partners, NOVEL University Place is playing an important role in developing a vibrant town center for University City. We’re excited about all that’s to come, including the University City Regional Library, which is commencing construction in August and will be our next-door neighbor.”
Located at 5315 Waters Edge Village Drive, the stunning community features 308 for-rent residences, including carriage homes and studio, 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom floorplans. NOVEL University Place also offers top-tier amenities, including a resident amenity building that houses a two-story fitness center, library, and co-working spaces and overlooks a lake-fronted resort-style pool with outdoor kitchens and hammock park. A 58kW solar array provides sustainable electric power that will offset the community’s energy usage in the multiple amenity and gathering spaces. In addition to the lake frontage, residents can also take advantage of the nearby Lynx light rail station, Barton Creek Greenway, and future Waters Edge development from EB Arrow.
Sustainability remains a commitment of Crescent Communities and is at the forefront at NOVEL University Place. The community is pursuing Fitwel certification, underscoring a commitment to the health and well-being of residents and the broader community, and NGBS (National Green Building Standard) certification for sustainable buildings at the silver level. The community also offers electric vehicle chargers, making it convenient and accessible for residents to choose EVs.
Design partners for NOVEL University Place include building and landscape architect Cline Design Associates, land planner and civil engineer LandDesign, and interior designer BB+M. The General Contractor for NOVEL University Place is Crescent Communities Construction.
Crescent Communities’ robust presence in the University City area also includes One University Place, a newly renovated office building in an unusually verdant environment. Recently completed spec suites allow potential tenants immediate occupancy, as well as modern finishes and stunning lake views. More broadly, Crescent Communities continues to experience significant growth with $7.2 billion of residential and commercial investments and developments currently under construction, operations and planning including 15,300 units of multifamily/single family build-to-rent, 58,000 square feet of complementary retail, and 7.5 million square feet of office, industrial and life-sciences. With a focus on environmental sustainability and wellness, the organization pursues certifications including LEED, NGBS (National Green Building Standard), Fitwel, and WELL.
